Dr. Fauzia Khan was born to Dr. Zafar Naqshbandi and Fahmida Begum in Aurangabad on 19th February 1957. She married Tahseen Ahmed Khan in 1984 and was blessed with two children. She moved to Parbhani after marriage where she started her political career by contesting the election for the post of President of the Parbhani Municipal Council
She is an Indian politician and a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament from Maharashtra on the Nationalist Congress Party ticket. As a minister, she was instrumental in identifying a 332-acre site for Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Maharashtra Center at Khuldabad near Aurangabad
She is also the National President of the Nationalist Mahila Congress. In 2006, she organised Parivartan a three-day annual programme for Women’s empowerment organised at Parbhani, Maharashtra. The programme was inaugurated by Shri Sharad Pawar and attended by ministers, bureaucrats and over one lakh women. Apart from this, the programme included 500 stalls, trainings, workshops, cultural programmes, etc.
She organises Parivartan Pathsanstha for Women Self Help Groups and organises Parivartan Bazar annually.
She heads the Federation of All Maharashtra Minority Education Organisation (FAME) and runs several educational institutions in Parbhani. She also conducts various educational activities through FAME.
She is a former Minister of State of the Government of Maharashtra in India. She was a two-time Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), the upper house of the Maharashtra Legislature.
She was minister of state (junior minister) with portfolios for School Education, Women & Child Development, Cultural Affairs, General Administration, Information & Public Relations, Minorities Development (including Aukaf), and Protocol.
In the year 2008, she donated five acres of land to develop an off-campus educational complex by Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) at Aurangabad. She organises 'Urdu ke aangan mein' and Inter-School Science Festivals every year.
As a cheerful soul, she likes reading, writing poetry, listening to music, wildlife photography, exploring jungles and travelling.
