Divya Gautam’s date of birth is 17 January 1991. She was born in Saharsa, Bihar, and brought up by Bhupendra Kumar and Lalita Singh. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Patna College and then did her M.A. in Women’s Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Later, she did another M.A. in Mass Communication from Nalanda Open University. Now she is a Ph.D. student mixing academics and activism to create social change.
She used to be an active participant in student movements and social activism, focusing on the rights of women and their education, through which she started her political journey. Eventually, she affiliated herself with the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation [CPI(ML)(L)] and there she became known for her sharp oral advocacy and involvement at the grassroots level. Divya's academic and on-field experience have been instrumental in her rise to be one of the most vibrant youths of left-wing politics in Bihar.
By 2025, Divya Gautam was chosen by CPI(ML)(L) to be their candidate for the Digha Assembly constituency. She keeps focusing on such issues as inclusive development, gender equality, and the empowerment of the youth; thus, she is a part of the Bihar political scene, which is changing with the educated, socially-driven candidates coming up against the traditional power structures.
In November 2025, Divya Gautam, a CPI(ML) Liberation candidate and former AISA leader, ran for the Digha Assembly seat but was defeated.
