Conrad Kongkal Sangma is the son of the former chief minister of Meghalaya, Mr. P. A. Sangma. He became active in politics just after his completion of studies. He completed a bachelor's degree in business administration in entrepreneurial management from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his MBA in finance from Imperial College London. He started his political career by contesting in 2004 Assembly election but lost by a short margin of 182 votes. In next Assembly election held in 2008, he elected to assembly along with his brother. After the death of his father in 2016 march, he became the president of National's People's Party (NPP). Then he was elected to 16th Lok Sabha from Tura constituency.
In 2018 assembly election, his party won 19 seats and formed coalition govt with other small parties and became the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. He also managed Finance Ministry portfolio.
In 2023, Conrad K sworn-in as the 13th chief minister of Meghalaya for the second time, after winning the assembly election representing South Tura constituency. Also the Minister of Elections Department, Finance Department, Forests & Environment Department, Home (Political) Department, Information Technology and Communication Department, Mining & Geology Department, Personnel & A.R. Department, Planning, Investment Promotion & Sustainable Development Department, Programme Implementation & Evaluation Department in the government of Meghalaya.

Chief Minster of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma chaired the first cabinet meeting of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance 2.0 government today.
The CM also informed that the state assembly will be resumed on March 20 for the budget session.
Conrad Sangma became the 13th Chief Minister of Meghalaya for the second time on March 7, 2023.
The National People's Party leader took oath in the presence of the prime minister Narendra Modi.
