Ashok Shankarrao Chavan is the son of ex-Maharashtra Chief Minister Shankarrao Bhaurao Chavan. He also served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from December 2008 to November 2010. Before becoming Chief Minister he served as Minister for Cultural Affairs, Industries, Mines and Protocol in the Vilasrao Deshmukh government.
He married Ameeta Ashok Chavan in 1982 and is blessed with two daughters. His wife was an MLA from the Bhokar constituency in Nanded for the years 2014-19. His brother-in-law, Bhaskarrao Bapurao Khatgaonkar Patil was a three-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and a three-time MP.
