Arun Jaitley Biography

An advocate turned Politician Arun Jaitley was a Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He served as the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Corporate Affairs in Government of India. He was one of the stalwarts of Bhartiya Janta Party. Before joining politics he was practising in Supreme Court. He was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court. Jaitley actively participated in the movement against Indira Gandhi Government during Emergency in 1975. That time he was the convener of Yuva Morch. He was detained first in the Ambala Jail and then in the Tihar Jail, Delhi. Jaitley previously was the cabinet minister during Vajpayee government too. He served as the Minister of Defence in the Modi government as an additional charge. During the UPA rule, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2014.
