Ambika Soni is a veteran Indian politician and belongs to the Indian National Congress Party. She represents the state of Punjab in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian parliament.

She is an active member of the Congress Working Committee. Ambika Soni has held various ranks in the Congress parties as well as in the government and parliamentary committees.
Ambika was born in Lahore in the Punjab province of then undivided India which eventually became the part of Pakistan post partition. Her Father Mr. Nakul Sen was an ICS officer and her mother Mrs Indu Nakul Sen was a devoted homemaker. She did her matriculation from the Govt. Model School, Chandigarh in 1956 and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the I P College of Delhi University. Subsequently she went on to study Foreign Languages and earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Spanish Language and Literature in year 1967 from University of Havana, Cuba.
She debuted into Indian politics in 1969 as as a volunteer of the Congress party and rose through the ranks very quickly. Once she was considered to be the close aide of Sanjay Gandhi. During 1972-1977, she worked closely with Sanjay Gandhi as a leader of Indian Youth Congress.
