Alka Lamba Biography

Alka Lamba was born on 21 September 1975 in New Delhi. She pursued her higher education at the University of Delhi, where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree. During her student years, she became actively involved in politics through the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which is the student wing of the Indian National Congress.

She began her political career with the Indian National Congress and held various organisational roles within the party. Over time, she built her presence in Delhi politics by working on issues related to youth, women, and civic concerns, gaining recognition as a grassroots political leader.

In 2015, she joined the Aam Aadmi Party and contested the Delhi Assembly elections from the Chandni Chowk constituency. She won the election and served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, becoming part of the AAP’s legislative team during its first full-term government in Delhi.

Her association with AAP ended in 2019 following differences with the party leadership. She resigned from the party and subsequently rejoined the Indian National Congress. This move was widely reported by national media and marked her return to her original political platform.

After rejoining Congress, she contested the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections from Chandni Chowk but did not win the seat. Since then, she has continued to remain politically active in Delhi through party work and public engagement.
