Abhay Singh Chautala

Abhay Singh Chautala was born on February 14, 1963, in Haryana into the influential Chautala political family. He is the son of Om Prakash Chautala, a former Chief Minister of Haryana, and the grandson of Devi Lal, a former Deputy Prime Minister of India. Growing up in a politically active environment, he was exposed to public life and regional politics early.

He is associated with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and has played a crucial role in sustaining the party’s presence in Haryana, particularly after internal party splits. Over the years, he has emerged as a key organisational leader and one of the primary faces of the party in state politics.

He has been elected multiple times as MLA from the Ellenabad constituency and has held the position of Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. His political career has been marked by active participation in legislative debates and advocacy on regional issues affecting Haryana.

In 2021, he resigned as MLA in support of farmers’ protests against the central farm laws, reflecting his political stance on agrarian issues. He later re-contested and won the Ellenabad by-election, returning to the Assembly.
