Zail Singh born as Jarnail Singh, who was the seventh president of India and the first Sikh to hold the office. He started his journey with Indian National Congress party and had held several ministerial posts in the Union Cabinet, including that of Home Minister.
He also served as the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement.
On his personal life, Zail was born in a Sikh family, which is situated in Sandhwan, Faridkot district to Kishan Singh and Mata Hind Kaur.
However, he was given the 'Giani' title as he was educated and learned about Guru Granth Sahib at Shaheed Sikh Missionary College in Amritsar.
Besides, his presidency was marked by Operation Blue Star, the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
In 1994, Zail Singh lost his life after suffering from multiple injuries due to a car accident.
