U T Abdul Khader Ali Fareed is mostly popular as U. T. Khader, he was born and brought up in Mangalore. Khader comes from a renowned Muslim family well known for their generosity. Khader is a member of Indian National Congress and has represented the Ullal constituency (now renamed as Mangalore Constituency) of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. U.T. Khader entered the Assembly for the first time by winning the 2007 by-election held following the death of his father Haji U T Fareed, who had won elections in 1972, 1978, 1999 and 2004. In 2023 assembly election, he again won by bagging over 52.01 per cent of votes from Mangalore constituency as a candidate of INC party. He also serves as one of the council ministers under Siddaramaiah's cabinet and the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly since May, 2023.
