Thupstan Chhewang Biography

Thupstan Chhewang was born 1 September 1947. He is a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Ladakh constituency of Jammu and Kashmir. He is a National Executive member and was elected as the member of Parliament from Ladakh constituency, representing BJP, in the 16th Lok Sabha.

He is the great great great great-grandson of Tsepel Tondup Namgyal, last independent ruler of Ladakh on his mother's paternal side. He is related to Kings of Zangla on his mother's maternal side since his maternal grandmother, Princess Yeshes Wangmo was the daughter of King of Zangla. He is the nephew of The 19th Kushok Bakula and great grand nephew of the 18th Kushok Bakula.

He actively involved in movements/agitations supporting grant of autonomy/UT status for Ladakh Region of Jammu and Kashmir. He propagated sustainable development model for Ladakh. He supported empowerment of Panchayati Institutions and active participation of people in development initiatives.
