Mons Joseph was born on 30 May 1964 in Kaduthuruthy, Kottayam district, Kerala, into a Syro-Malabar Christian family. He completed his education in law and entered public life through student politics.
He became active in student organisations such as the Kerala Students Congress and later held positions in youth and district-level political committees, gradually building his base in Kerala Congress politics.
He entered the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1996 from the Kaduthuruthy constituency and later served as Minister for Public Works between 2007 and 2009.
He has since remained a key leader within the Kerala Congress (Joseph) faction and the UDF alliance, consistently representing Kaduthuruthy in the Kerala Legislative Assembly across multiple terms.
In the 2026 Kerala Assembly election, he contested the Kaduthuruthy constituency as a Kerala Congress candidate and won, securing 70,353 votes with a margin of 31,300 votes, marking another continuation of his long legislative career.
