Michael Vincent Lobo, son of Melchiades Vincent and Almira Lobo, was born on June 18, 1976, in Mapusa, Goa. He completed his early education at St. Britto High School before powering his way through politics. Lobo continues to be active in the business field of Goa besides politics.
Lobo's political career began with the Indian National Congress, although he became a figure more recognized by the public when he switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the mid-2000s. He won the elections of the Goa Legislative Assembly from Calangute in 2012, which was his first, by nipping the current MLA in the bud and thus marking his political footprint in the area.
Lobo's affiliation to the BJP allowed him to take part in the cabinet of the Goa government, and together with his portfolios of Ports, Waste Management, and others, he became a powerful minister. Lobo's being the Leader of the Opposition in the Goa Assembly for a while also mirrored his important role in the legislative arena.
In a split with party management in January 2022, Lobo quit the BJP, his minister’s post, and his Assembly seat. The Indian National Congress was his next political home, where he again contested the Goa Assembly election from Calangute as a Congress candidate in 2022. He gained the position with a significant lead over the BJP rival, thus reconsolidating his electoral base.
Lobo is a public figure in Goa, still outside of official positions, where he remains actively involved in people's concerns and community matters. His spouse, Delilah Lobo, is also a Congress MLA representing the Siolim constituency in the Goa Assembly.
