If you are a full-fledged Indian with an affinity towards the cinema, you are well acquainted with the Indian acting legend Kamal Haasan and his 2017's resolution to dive into politics. Tamil Nadu has churned out a spate of successful actors turned politicians--MGR the country's first actor-turned-Chief Minister, NTR, Jayalalithaa and a few more who failed to establish their reign as well as the aforementioned actors. However, it remains to be seen if Kamal Hasaan can elicit a similar success in his political endeavor. To achieve this feat he established his own political party in Makkal Needhi Mariam (MNM) in February 2018. He ruled out an alliance with DMK and will be part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc for the 2024 general elections. He will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls either from Coimbatore or Chennai.
Kamal Haasan has won several Indian film awards, including National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards. He is also known as the only actor to have the most number of films starring him submitted for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. As an artist, he's delved into the arena of directing, screenwriting and is also lyricist and choreographer. He made his debut as a 4-year-old child artiste, in the 1960 film Kalathur Kannamma. The film won him Rashtrapathi Award (President's Gold Medal) and since then he's morphed into a force to be reckoned with in the cinematic world. He's starred in the copious award-winning movies, directed a few and now has decided to throw his hat in the political ring.
