Jitin Prasada Biography

Jitin Prasada was born to the late Congress veteran Jitendra Prasada and Kanta Prasada in New Delhi on 29 November 1973.

He began his political career in 2001 with the Indian Youth Congress as a general secretary. In 2004, he won his first election and was elected as a Member of Parliament in the 14th Lok Sabha, representing the Shahjahanpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh. In the 15th Lok Sabha, he represented the Dhaurahra constituency in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh.

Jitin Prasada was once viewed as a promising member of Rahul Gandhi’s team and was appointed as In-Charge for West Bengal for Congress. However, on 9 June 2021, he switched allegiances to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In September 2021, Jitin Prasada was inducted into the Yogi Adityanath government as the Minister of Technical Education of Uttar Pradesh following a Cabinet expansion. In the 2024 general elections, he won from the Pilibhit constituency on a BJP ticket. Subsequently, he was appointed as a Minister of State, handling the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

His has special interests are in wildlife, bird watching, and jungle safaris. He also enjoys watching films and listening to music, doing social work for women, youth, farmers, and the underprivileged. Additionally, he finds solace in reading, trying different cuisines, interacting with friends, and using computers. His hobbies include horse riding, water sports such as rafting, rowing, and yachting, and playing soccer.

He is associated with the SRIJAN Jitendra Prasada Foundation in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, he is a member of the India Habitat Centre in Delhi and the Boat House Club in Nainital.
