Ajit Pawar was born on 22nd July 1959 to Anantrao Govindrao Pawar in Deolali Pravara, Rahuri taluka, Ahmednagar district. From a young age, he had to take on the responsibility of supporting his family, which exposed him to the social issues around him. It was during this time that he developed a deep empathy for farmers, understanding their struggles firsthand.
His leadership journey began through his involvement with milk unions, cooperative societies, sugar factories, and banks. In 1991, his political career took a significant turn, leading him to hold various key positions such as Member of Parliament, Member of the Legislative Assembly, and Minister of State for crucial departments. He has served as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra four times.
Regardless of his position, Ajit Pawar remains closely connected to the people through his Janata Darbars, treating party workers and the public equally. He is known for pushing for faster administrative work.
As the nephew of former NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Ajit had been serving as the 8th Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra since December 2024.
His interests included reading, cricket, tennis, kho-kho, and kabaddi. On a personal note, he married Sunetra Pawar on 30th December, 1985, and the couple is blessed with one son.
Pawar’s long career came to an abrupt end when he died in a plane crash near Baramati, Maharashtra, in January 2026, an event that reverberated across the state and national political landscape.
