Rajasthan Police launch WhatsApp helpline for women

Jaipur, Jan 2: The Rajasthan Police have launched a WhatsApp service to reach out to citizens and ensure safety for women.

The service has been launched in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota districts.

With this service, women can send messages on the police whatsapp number seeking help in case of emergency such as eve-teasing, harassment.

Speaking to media after launch of the service, State DGP Omendra Bhardwaj said that safety of women is topmost priority of the State police and that the police is taking a number of steps to curb crime against women.

"Safety for women and curbing crime against them have always been our priority," he said.

The service is dedicated to women but people can also upload text, videos or pictures of any criminal activity which come into their notice.

Elaborating further on the service, Bhardwaj said the identity of the informer would be kept secret. He said the service has been the police control room, all mobile police units and with the official phones of all police officers.

He further said that the police will act instantly after receiving complaints. He also said that this service has been introduced in three cities on a pilot basis.

Bhardwaj said the Whatsapp numbers will be circulated under a massive campaign in these three cities.
