Rajasthan Government Suspends Private Hospital's Organ Transplant Certificate
In a significant move by the Rajasthan government, the registration and renewal certificate of Manipal Hospital in Jaipur for conducting human organ transplantation has been suspended. This decision comes in the wake of allegations surrounding the issuance of a fake No Objection Certificate (NOC) for organ transplants. The directive for this action was issued by Shubhra, the Additional Chief Secretary of Medical and Health and Medical Education Department.

Dr. Rashmi Gupta, an authorised officer, stated that Manipal Hospital had been granted the registration and renewal certificate under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994. However, recent investigations have brought to light a concerning issue of a fake NOC being issued, leading to the arrest of Girraj Sharma, an employee at Fortis Hospital, who was previously associated with Manipal Hospital. Sharma's involvement has raised suspicions about the NOC obtained by Manipal Hospital for organ transplantation.
The ongoing investigation into this matter is being conducted by both the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the police. According to Dr. Gupta, the scrutiny of Manipal Hospital's NOC has prompted authorities to suspend its license for organ transplantation activities temporarily. This step reflects the government's stringent stance on maintaining ethical practices in medical procedures and its commitment to investigating fraudulent activities.
This is not an isolated incident, as earlier actions were taken against Fortis Hospital and EHCC Hospital in Jaipur under similar circumstances. The suspension of their registration and renewal certificates highlights a broader issue within the medical community regarding the adherence to legal and ethical standards in organ transplantation.
The Rajasthan government's decisive actions underscore its dedication to upholding medical ethics and ensuring that hospitals comply with established laws and regulations. As investigations continue, these measures serve as a deterrent against malpractices in the healthcare sector, particularly in sensitive areas such as organ transplantation.
