Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 2: PM Modi Urges To Vote As Voting Commences Across 13 States and UTs

The Lok Sabha elections for 2024 are currently ongoing, with Phase 2 scheduled for April 26. This phase covers 89 constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories. Voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm.

In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections held on April 19, a voter turnout of 65.5 per cent was recorded across 102 seats. This is a decrease from the 69.9 per cent turnout recorded in these seats during the 2019 elections, representing a drop of 4.4 per cent according to provisional figures. Many attribute the low turnout to the harsh sunlight, which deterred participation on the ground.

Following a noticeable decrease in voter turnout during the initial phase, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued an appeal today urging citizens to actively participate in the democratic process by casting their votes for their preferred political parties.

He appealed today morning on X, formerly known as Twitter, "Urging everyone in constituencies voting today, in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, to participate in record numbers. A high voter turnout strengthens our democracy. I especially urge our young voters and women voters to turn out in great numbers. Your vote is your voice!"

Responding to Prime Minister Modi's appeal, a remarkable display of civic duty was witnessed in Ukhrul, Outer Manipur, where a 94-year-old woman arrived to cast her vote. Her participation underscores the significance of every citizen's contribution to the electoral process.

Today, the voting for 13 Assembly segments under the Outer Manipur seat will take place as part of the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

In the upcoming second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, a staggering 15.88 crore voters will have the power to decide the fate of 1,202 candidates. This includes 8.08 crore male voters, 7.8 crore female voters, and 5929 third-gender voters. To ensure voter convenience, the Election Commission has made detailed arrangements at all polling stations, including provisions to cope with hot weather conditions.

The Lok Sabha elections are being conducted in seven phases until June 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
