Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP MP Rahul Kaswan Quits Party, Joins Congress, Here's Why

Days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the candidates list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, leaders who have been denied tickets have started exploring new options. BJP's two-time Member of Parliament from Rajasthan's Churu constituency Rahul Kaswan resigned from the party on Monday and joined Congress after meeting the CWC president Mallikarjun Kharge and other top leaders in Delhi.

This time the saffron wing has picked Devendra Jhajharia, a Paralympics medalist, for Churu seat instead of Kaswan.

The reports suggested that Congress' CEC (Central Election Committee) will hold a key meeting today with party top leadership to churn over names of the candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 and Kawan is likely to get Congress' ticket from Churu this time.

Taking it to X, formerly known as Twitter, MP Rahul Kaswan asked BJP leadership why he was denied the ticket. "What was my crime after all? Was I not honest? Was I not hard-working? Was I not loyal? Was I tainted? Did I leave any stone unturned in getting the work done in Churu Lok Sabha?" Churu MP said in a post.

He added "I was at the forefront in the implementation of all schemes of the prime minister. What else was needed? Whenever I asked this question, everyone remained speechless. No one is able to answer this."

Kaswan's resignation is surely a big blow to the BJP as his father Ram Singh has been a BJP MP and an MLA from Churu. Rahul Kaswan's mother Kamla Kaswan held the post of MLA from Sadulpur. This means that Kaswan's have a stronghold in Churu and this may spoil BJP's party this time.
