How India has transformed Power Distribution System over the years
India is amongst the fastest growing economies and the 'power sector' is acting as a catalyst to this growth. Going by the India Today Mood of the Nation Survey Aug 2017 shows that the power supply situation in the country has seen tremendous improvements over the past year.
The survey also showed that 41 percent respondents see power supply situation in their area improved while 15 percent see significant improvement. The combined figure thus is more than 55 percent of the respondents seeing improvements.
It may be recalled that the NDA government had announced earlier in 2015 that it would electrify entire India by 2019. According to the data available on URJA portal of the Ministry of Power shows that an average duration of power cuts have been reduced in the past year from 16.33 hrs/month in July 2016 to 9.21 hrs/ month in July 2017.
The survey also suggests power supply situation across 1000 towns. Users can visit the URJA portal at www.urjaindia.co.in or download all the apps of Ministry of Power by giving a missed call at toll free number 1800 200 3004.
For consumers, the processes have been streamlined and consumers can register an electricity complaint by calling on 1912. These are then taken up for redressal.
The pending complaints of consumers have also been brought down from 16.6 percent in July 2016 to 9.2 percent in July 2017. People's participation has been instrumental in a continuous feedback which has ultimately resulted in improved electricity supply. Going by the data, we can say that the government of India is moving towards ensuring 24*7 Power supply for all by 2019.
