BJP Calls For Arrest Of JMM Leader Over Derogatory Remarks Against PM Modi
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand has called for a thorough investigation and the arrest of a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader, Nazrul Islam, over alleged derogatory comments made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The controversy erupted following the circulation of a video where Islam is purportedly heard stating that the Prime Minister would be buried 400-foot below in the election, rather than securing 400 seats. The authenticity of the video remains unverified.

Pratul Shahdeo, the state spokesperson for the BJP, highlighted that these remarks were made during a public meeting in Sahebganj on Sunday. Despite this, there has been no police action against Islam. The BJP has interpreted these comments as a sign of defeat from the opposition INDIA bloc in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, attributing such statements to frustration.
In response to these allegations, the JMM has distanced itself from Islam's remarks, stating that if he indeed made such comments, he would be issued a show-cause notice. Manoj Pandey, a spokesperson for JMM, emphasized that the party does not condone disrespectful remarks and that the context of Islam's statement needs further verification.
The BJP is pressing for immediate action, urging Chief Minister Champai Soren to establish a high-level committee to investigate the matter and calling for Islam's arrest. Furthermore, they plan to approach the Election Commission regarding this issue. Babulal Marandi, State BJP president, commented on the situation by saying that the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has seemingly affected the mental balance of JMM members.
This incident has sparked a political controversy in Jharkhand, with both parties standing firm on their respective stances. The BJP's demand for an investigation and arrest reflects their intolerance towards any derogatory remarks against their leaders, while the JMM's conditional condemnation of Islam's alleged comments indicates a cautious approach pending further verification.
