PM Modi Launches Modified UDAN Scheme, Opens New Jodhpur Airport Terminal

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed terminal at Jodhpur Airport on Saturday, which is a big step towards development of aviation infrastructure in Rajasthan.

The total cost of constructing the terminal was ₹480 crore, and this will help in increasing passenger capacity with state-of-the-art facilities.

Alongside, he also unveiled the revised UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme, which focuses on regional connectivity in India within ten years.

Grand Welcome for Prime Minister Modi

The PM reached Jodhpur for inauguration after being greeted by many dignitaries such as Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Union Minister and MP of Jodhpur Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.

In his speech, the PM unveiled the commemorative plaque for official inauguration of the terminal through remote unveiling of the plaque. He visited the new terminal building after its inauguration to see the facilities provided inside the passenger facility.

New Terminal Will Cater To 20 Lakh Passengers Each Year

The total cost incurred on the development of the new terminal is ₹480 crore and it covers an area of more than 23,000 square meters.
As per PMO, this new terminal will be able to handle around 20 lakh passengers annually.

Not only was the terminal inauguration performed by Mr. Modi, but the Prime Minister also unveiled the revised scheme called UDAN. This scheme is the key initiative undertaken by the Centre to promote regional air connectivity in India.

The objective of the revised scheme is to enhance the connectivity through air in remote and unserved regions and to make air transport affordable and accessible to people.
A total amount of ₹28,840 crore will be spent on this programme in the coming 10 years.

Focus on Regional Connectivity

The enhanced UDAN scheme seeks to enhance the regional aviation connectivity of the country through better connections to smaller cities and regions.

The government stated that the project is part of its larger plan of ensuring air travel to people at economical prices while developing the region economically.
The start of the scheme would lead to greater connectivity, new flight paths and enhanced aviation infrastructure in the coming years.

It is anticipated that the new terminal would be helpful for tourists and business travelers traveling to Jodhpur and other places in Rajasthan.

Through enhanced passenger handling capacity and better connectivity with the aid of the revised UDAN scheme, the project is anticipated to help in the tourism, trade and economic development of the state.
