Mumbai drunk driving: Policeman dies, toll up to 2

Mumbai, Jan 30: The death toll in the Mumbai drunk driving accident has risen to two as a policeman, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital, succumbed to his wounds.

The latest victim, identified as sub-inspector Dinanath Shinde, died on Saturday, Jan 30 after a motorcyclist was crushed to death in the mishap.

At around 1 am in the morning, 27-year-old woman driver rammed her Honda CRV into a traffic police Qualis, a motorcycle and a taxi.

35-year-old motorcyclist, Afzal Mukhmojiya who was rushed to the hospital immediately after the accident was declared dead.

Five policemen were injured in the mishap. With one of them succumbing to the injuries, four are left fight for their lives in hospitals.

A medical test on the woman driver, Nuriya Yusuf Ahluwalia, confirmed that the woman was driving under the influence of alcohol. She has been arrested.

"The police found three beer cans in her vehicle and when she was checked for alcohol consumption with a breathalyser, her alcohol count was 457 mg. The permissible limit is 30 mg," DCP (Traffic) Nandkumar Chougule said.

As per media reports, the police is now trying to ascertain if the woman was also under the influence of drugs.
