IIT Bombay Junks False Reports, Says Only 6.1% Students Yet To Get Jobs; Shares Students Survey Data

A day after reports claiming 30% students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay graduates for the 2022-2023 session are yet to secure placements surfaced over the Internet, the prestigious institution junked rumors stating only 6.1 % of students are still looking for jobs. IIT Bombay supported its statement with data from a survey conducted among its last year pass-outs.

However, the premier engineering institute did not disclose the number of students who participated in the survey.

Earlier on Wednesday, reports backed by data evaluated on the basis of responses from 2,000 IIT Bombay 2022-2023 pass-outs, who registered for 2024 placements, it was noted that 712 students, which is nearly 30 %, were jobless.

But today, the IIT Bombay scrapped the false claims sharing a pie chart that reads that 57.1 % of students have got jobs, while 12.2 % of students have decided to pursue higher degrees. Around 10.3 % IIT Bombay graduates are seeking job outside IIT-B and 8.3 % of students want to go for public services. 1.6 % IIT Bombay passouts are working on their start-ups, and 4.3 % people have not yet decided their next move.

The data claimed that only 6.1% IIT Bombay last year pass-outs were looking for a job.

Soon after IIT Bombay's response, the comment section of the post flooded with remarks from people agreeing and disagreeing with the numbers. Many social media questioned the prestigious institute about the sample size, while many called it a nice way to cover up at the time of crisis.

Meanwhile, many people also backed IIT Bombay saying all its alumni are talented and hard-working and they would surely find a good job, if not found one yet.
