Bitti Mohanty
Thiruvananthapuram, March 12: Rape convict Bitti Mohanty was absconding for more than six years, before he was arrested by Kerala police on Saturday. Kerala police arrested one man called Raghav Rajan for alleged impersonation and forgery.

The arrested man Raghav Rajan is none other than Bitti Mohanty, who was convicted for raping a German woman. Bitti Mohanty created the identity of Raghav Rajan to hoodwink the police.

In fact, Bitti was working in a bank in Kerala, before he was arrested.

His arrest happened after the bank where he was working received an anonymous letter (handwritten) detailing who Raghav Rajan actually is. The letter was written by a woman colleague of Bitti, who was also his lover.

Police nailed Bitti following up on the complaint of his employer in the State Bank of Travancore. His employer told police that personal details he had given did not match up. "Bitti had been working with the bank for seven months and claimed o hold an MBA degree from Kannur University," said a police official.

Bitti was arrested from Kannur in Kerala.

The case is high profile as Bitti is the son of former Odisha DGP BB Mohanty, who helped him to jump parole. Earlier, Bitti was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan.

But, he took advantage of his father's position when he was allowed a 15-day parole to meet his ailing mother in 2006. Bitti jumped parole and was absconding since then. Bitti's father was accused of helping his son jump parole.

The former Odisha DGP was suspended and even arrested on the charge of helping and hiding his son. But he was later reinstated in service and retired last year.

Bitti Mohanty, who is currently under Kerala Police custody was identified by Lal Kothi inspector Hemanth Chander at Payyannur police station. The Rajasthan team said they wouldn't be submitting the production warrant as the court has given his custody to Kerala Police. "But there is no change in the plan to take him to Rajasthan where we will scientifically prove that Raghav is Biti," he said.
