New Delhi, March 16: Rajasthan police seem to have faced the latest bolt over the controversial Bitti Mohanty case. The cops are accused of paying for the VIP treatment which has been bestowed on the rape convict during his latest visit to the state in connection with his real identity verification.

Bitti, who was on run since last seven years, has been arrested by Kerala police. Soon after his arrest, a team of Rajasthan police reached Kerala and took Bitti back to the state where Bitti was sentenced seven year imprisonment in 2006.

First police arranged a second-class AC coach tickets for Bitti and other police officials who travelled from Kerala to Rajasthan. Then the rape convict was given an air-conditioned room in a guest house to stay.

The Rajasthan police have been facing criticism over their alleged VIP treatment to Bitti who should have stayed in a prison instead of enjoying the luxury of a guest house.

Bitti is the son of former Odisha DGP BB Mohanty, who helped him jump parole. Earlier, Bitti was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan.

When he was allowed a 15-day parole to meet his ailing mother in 2006 Bitti jumped parole and was absconding since then. Bitti's father was also accused of helping his son jump parole.

The former Odisha DGP was suspended and arrested on the charge of helping and hiding his son. But he was later reinstated in service and retired in 2012.

BB Mohanty has been grilled by the Rajasthan police on Friday, March 15. Police officials said they interrogated senior Mohanty to find out his role in helping Bitti to led the dual life of Raghav Rajan.
