Bhubaneswar, March 15: The truth about Bitti Mohanty aka Raghav Rajan is out with the Kerala police confirming that the rape convict had forged his academic documents. According to sources, all his educational certificates under the name of Raghav Rajan have been forged.

According to media reports a team of police officials visited the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, where Bitti Mohanty finished BTech in 2004, and met the vice-chancellor. They also went to Cuttack's Stewart School and Christ College, where Bitti Mohanty studied before getting into KIIT.

"We are convinced that all his certificates in the name of Raghav Rajan are forged," Jose Joseph, who is leading the police team was quoted as saying.

Bitti Mohanty was taken to Jaipur on March 12 to confirm his identity as he claims to be Raghav Rajan. He was arrested in Kerala last week after 7 years. He had jumped parole while serving his term in prison at Alwar, Rajasthan.

Police sources informed that a 6 member team has taken the accused to Jaipur. The investigation is being led by Taliparamba circle inspector A V John.

Bitti had been working with the bank for seven months and claimed to hold an MBA degree from Kannur University, a police official said. Bitti is the son of former Odisha DGP BB Mohanty, who helped him jump parole.

Earlier, Bitti was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan. When he was allowed a 15-day parole to meet his ailing mother in 2006 Bitti jumped parole and was absconding since then. Bitti's father was also accused of helping his son jump parole. The former Odisha DGP was suspended and arrested on the charge of helping and hiding his son. But he was later reinstated in service and retired last year.
