According to sources in the police the former DGP is ínnocent and there is 'no evidence' that he helped his son jump parole.
Mohanty senior was interrogated by a special investigation team comprising the Kerala police.
"I have nothing to say...the investigation is still on," BB Mohanty was quoted as saying when he left the DCP's office.
Kerala police who are investigating rape convict Bitii Mohanty's case, have found that his B.Tech certificate from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar in the name of Raghav Rajan was forged.
"The B.Tech degree certificate in the name of Raghav Rajan is forged. The same was issued in the name of Bitti," said Josi Joesph, an inspector-rank officer leading the Kerala police team.
The police team are verifying Bitti's documents. "We are convinced that all his certificates in the name of Raghav Rajan are forged," Jose Joseph, who is leading the police team was quoted as saying. Bitti Mohanty was taken to Jaipur on March 12 to confirm his identity as he claims to be Raghav Rajan. He was arrested in Kerala last week after 7 years.
Bitti is the son of former Odisha DGP BB Mohanty and until now it was believed that he helped his son jump parole. Earlier, Bitti was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan. When he was allowed a 15-day parole to meet his ailing mother in 2006 Bitti jumped parole and was absconding since then. The former Odisha DGP was suspended and arrested on the charge of helping and hiding his son. But he was later reinstated in service and retired last year.
