Revealed: How Bitti duped police as a Sadhu in Puttaparthi
Police teams probing the case confirm that Bitti stayed in Puttaparthi from 2007-2009.
Puttaparthi is the land of Satya Sai Baba. Satya Sai Baba had built his ashram in Puttaparthi, where devotees in millions used to flock till the time of his death in April 2011.
Bitti was said to have led a monastic life during his stay in Puttaparthi. Like a typical Sai Baba devotee, Bitti used to flaunt a white attire and vermilion tilak on his forehead.
"He lived like a sadhu here," said Dr Krishnaiah, a government homoeopathy doctor in Puttaparthi who treated him once for jaundice.
Police sources say probably Bitti took advantage that he was in Puttaparthi and dressed himself like a Sadhu to dupe police from arresting him.
Bitti was arrested and convicted for raping a German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan in March 2006. He later jumped parole and since then he was absconding for more than six years. He was arrested by Kerala police from Kannur on March 8, this year.
In Kerala, Bitti was working as a bank official under the name of Raghav Rajan. He was arrested after an anonymous letter described how Bitti fooled the system by taking a fake identity. In order to lead a dual life, Bitti forged his Passport, IDs and educational certificates.
