Bitti Mohanty's identity will be confirmed in Jaipur

Kannur, Kerala, March 12: Bitti Mohanty who is accused of raping a German woman will be taken to Jaipur tonight. He is being taken to confirm his identity as he claims to be Raghav Rajan.

He was arrested in Kerala last week after 7 years. He had jumped parole while serving his term in prison at Alwar, Rajasthan.

Police source informed that a 6 member team will be taking the accused to Jaipur tonight. The investigation is being led by Taliparamba circle inspector A V John.

According to the police the ''four-member Rajasthan police team, which arrived here last evening, did not have any scientific evidence to prove Bitty's identity, though Hemender, a member of the team who arrested him seven years back, identified the culprit''.

The culprit will also be taken to Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to collect information about him. They added that Bitty was not taken anywhere tody as part of probe.

The Rajasthan police team is "staying back here to produce the Jaipur Court's production warrant in the court here tomorrow, after which they would return". They are likely to get custody of Bitti after he is brought back by the Kerala police team.

Bitti was working in a bank in Kerala as Raghav Rajan. His arrest happened after the bank where he was working received an anonymous letter gave away who Raghav Rajan

According to reports the letter was written by his lover, who also worked at the bank. Following the complaints, Bitti was nabbed. According to the bank, State Bank of Travancore Bitti's details did not match what he had given.

"Bitti had been working with the bank for seven months and claimed to hold an MBA degree from Kannur University," said a police official. Bitti was arrested from Kannur in Kerala. Bitti is the son of former Odisha DGP BB Mohanty, who helped him jump parole.

Earlier, Bitti was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan. When he was allowed a 15-day parole to meet his ailing mother in 2006 Bitti jumped parole and was absconding since then. Bitti's father was also accused of helping his son jump parole. The former Odisha DGP was suspended and arrested on the charge of helping and hiding his son. But he was later reinstated in service and retired last year.
