US Condemns Attacks Against Indian Students: 'No Excuse For Violence'

In response to recent attacks on Indian students in the US, it has been asserted by the White House that violence based on race, gender, or any other factor is unacceptable in the US, with no excuse.

During a press briefing on Thursday (local time), it was stated by John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, that efforts have been made by US President Joe Biden and his administration to work very hard in an attempt to thwart and disrupt these kinds of attacks.

In response to a question regarding recent attacks on Indian students and the concerns among parents about sending their children to the US, it was stated, "There's no excuse for violence, certainly based on race or gender or religion or any other factor. That's just unacceptable here in the United States, and efforts have been made by the President and his administration to work very, very hard to ensure that everything possible is being done to collaborate with state and local authorities in attempting to thwart and disrupt those kinds of attacks. It is made clear to anybody who might consider them that they will be held properly accountable."

Amid a sudden increase in attacks and deaths of Indians and Indian-Americans in the United States, it has been reported that on February 7, a 41-year-old Indian-origin man died in the United States, days after sustaining life-threatening injuries due to an assault in downtown Washington, as per police statements.

The deceased, identified as Vivek Taneja of Alexandria, Virginia, was involved in an incident on February 2 at approximately 2:00 a.m. (local time), according to the police report. Following the assault, Taneja was promptly transported to the hospital for treatment, as stated in the Metropolitan Police Department's official release.

Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on February 7. The Metropolitan Police in Washington, DC, has been soliciting public assistance in identifying and locating the suspect involved in the incident.

Additionally, it was reported that an Indian student faced a brutal attack in Chicago on February 4. Subsequently, the Indian Consulate in Chicago affirmed its contact with the victim, Syed Mazahir Ali, and his wife in India. Social media footage depicted Ali bleeding heavily as he recounted the harrowing ordeal. Another circulating video, purportedly CCTV footage of the incident, depicted Ali being pursued by three assailants on the streets of Chicago.

Earlier in the month, an Indian student named Shreyas Reddy was found dead in Cincinnati, Ohio, with the cause of death remaining undisclosed. Reports indicated that Reddy was enrolled at the Linder School of Business. Furthermore, on January 30, Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University, was discovered deceased after being reported missing for several days, according to the Tippecanoe County Coroner.

Before these incidents, Vivek Saini, another Indian student, was ruthlessly killed with repeated blows from a hammer by a homeless individual inside a store in Lithonia, Georgia, US. Although a video of the incident circulated on social media, the exact date of the occurrence remains unconfirmed.
