He has been taken into custody by the Haryana police. He will be produced before the court on Monday when the quantum of sentence will be read out. The maximum sentence a rape conviction carries is 10 years.
When the verdict was read out Ram Rahim was present in the court. There were thousands of his followers outside the court as the verdict was read out. Just two hours before the court sealed the fate of the 50 year old self styled godman, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had told the government to use force if required. It had also asked the government to file FIRs in case any of the followers are breaking the law or making provocative remarks.
The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on Monday. The CBI had filed a FIR against Ram Rahim, accused of raping two 'sadhvis' in 2002. The trial in the case began in 2008.
