Agra conversion case: Prime accused Kishore Balmiki on the run, NBW issued

Agra, Dec 13: Agra Police on Friday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant (NBW) against Kishore Balmiki, the main accused in the Agra 're-conversion' case. A reward of Rs 5,000 has also been announced for anyone who provides information leading to his arrest.

As per a TOI report, SSP Shalabh Mathur told the newspaper that after raiding more than six different spots in the city, including Madhav Bhawan, office of the RSS, to arrest Balmiki on Thursday, police approached the district court to for a non-bailable arrest warrant against him. Raids continued on Friday, after the warrant was issued, to nab Balmiki. He, however, managed to evade arrest.

Earlier on Dec 10, police filed an FIR against Hindu outfit Dharma Jagran Manch, an RSS offshoot, over the alleged forced reconversion of about 100 people to Hinduism in Agra on Monday. The Sadar Bazaar Police, which filed the FIR, launched investigation into the case against Dharma Jagran Manch and its UP convener Kishore.

Dharma Jagran Samanvay Vibhag, an offshoot of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Monday claimed to have converted members of at least 57 Muslim families into Hinduism at a ceremony called 'Purkhon ki ghar vapsi' in Agra. The ceremony was jointly organised by Dharma Jagran Samanvay Vibhag and Bajrang Dal on Monday.

The entire issue has created an uproar in the Parliament with the opposition attacking the Narendra Modi-led NDA government for patronising such groups and forced conversion under the pressure of RSS.

After Agra, it seems that now a similar campaign will take place in Aligarh on Christmas, December 25.

Despite uproar in the Parliamnet over the alleged conversion issue, BJP's firebrand MP Yogi Adityanath said that he will go to Aligarh on December 25 for Purkhon ki ghar vapsi' (Coming home of the ancestors) ceremony.

"This is not conversion but homecoming. My program is in Aligarh and it will happen - those who want to return voluntarily will be welcome," Adityanath was quoted as saying in media reports despite BJP denying any role in the conversions.
