CB-CID nabs the accused in Lakhimpur Kheri rape case
Constable, Atique Ahmed, the prime accused confessed to his part in the crime.
The girl was killed after she tried to raise an alarm, said Shashank Shekhar Singh, Cabinet Secretary.
“On June 10, the constable again tried to entice the girl but when she raised an alarm he strangulated her with her dupatta," revealing that Ahmed was constantly giving money to the girl to hook her.
“Thereafter, the gunner offered 'namaz' and then hanged the girl's body from a tree in the police station," said the Cabinet Secretary.
Sonam, the victim was killed by the constable in his room. Investigations also reveal that Ahmed while on duty at the magistrate's office at Lakhimpur Kheri, also tried to push his way into a residence once.
The first two postmortem report of Sonam ruled out any possibility of rape while the second report revealed that she died due to strangulation.
Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court asked for a reply on the PIL from the Uttar Pradesh government into the rape and murder of the teenager. The bench consisting of Justice Abdul Mateen and Kumar Singh said that the reply should be sent as an affidavit within next three days.
The girl was found hanging in a police station in Lakhimpur after her cattle strayed into the jail premises on Jun 10.
According to the victim's mother the girl was allegedly raped by 11 police men and then murdered.
