People slam Lahore police for beefing up security 'after' suicide blast

Lahore, Jan 26(ANI): In the aftermath of the twin suicide blasts on Tuesday, security has been beefed up across Lahore, with the City police having sealed the entire provincial capital besides launching a massive search operation in various areas to hunt the terror suspects.

On Tuesday, a teenager suicide bomber blew up his explosive vest near Urdu Bazaar Crossing when he was stopped from entering the Chehlum procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), leaving 16 people dead - including four policemen- and dozens others injured.

About an hour later, a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden motorbike into a police van in Karachi, killing at least three people- including two policemen- and wounding four others.

Insiders claimed that the Crime Investigation Agency and the City police picked over 50 people from different hotels, guesthouses, and other areas in Lahore following the incident, The Nation reported.

Meanwhile, the eyewitnesses and the relatives of the martyred were not only cursing senior police officers but also complaining about the insufficient security equipment available with the police officers deputed on the scene.

They, however, paid rich tribute to the police officers who lost their lives while saving the city from a major terror attack, and asked why security was beefed up 'after' the incident.

"The security must be improved and a good number of senior police officers equipped with modern security gadgets should be deployed at sensitive areas," they added. (ANI)
