Row Over Controversial Comments On Adi Shankaracharya In Udupi Krishna Mutt
A controversy was triggered at Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi allegedly over objectionable remarks about Advaita propounder Sri Adi Shankaracharya. The incident occurred during a Harikatha programme.
According to Diwan (administrator) M Udaya Kumar of Paryaya Sri Shiroor Mutt, the organisers had taken permission only to conduct a Bharatanatyam performance and a Harivana Seva programme. However, they instead staged a Harikatha titled 'Bhakta Prahlada' during which the remarks were made.

Ankit Naik and Gauri Pandurangi had obtained permission on July 11 to conduct a one-hour Bharatanatyam performance and a one-hour Harivana Seva programme. The organisers deviated from the approved schedule by presenting the Harikatha programme without authorisation.
"The mutt expresses its deep regret over this unfortunate and undesirable incident," the statement added.

As the clip of the alleged comments went viral, Pandurangi has issued a video message seeking forgiveness. In her statement, the Harikatha artist clarified that there was no intent to insult anyone and asserted that neither the Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt nor the Shiroor Mutt had any involvement in the content of the performance.
"No one from any Madhva Mutt instructed us to make such a statement. We read it from a book. If our words have hurt followers of other faiths or mutts, we sincerely apologise," she said.
The controversy started after the video of the objectionable video went viral on social media sites.
