'Hello Idiots' : 3 Idiots’s Chatur Backs Wangchuk Amid Hunger Strike, Says 'I Don't Want Phunsukh Wangdu To..'

Today marks 16th day of Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike, and the Jantar Mantar protest is on. And there is no response to this protest from any government official. However, in the latest development, actor Omi Vaida- also remembered as Chatur from the famous movie - 3 idiots has come out in support of educator and a climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.

One must know that Sonam is on an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, and sadly no official is paying heed.

In an emotional video shared on social media, Vaidya drew connection between Sonam Wangchuk and Phunsukh Wangdu- a famous character played by Aamir Khan in 3 idiots.
What Aamir didn't do, Chatur did- shed light on the deteriorating health of the scientist.

'I Don't Want Phunsukh Wangdu To Die'

Omi began the video with saying - "I don't want Phunsukh Wangdu to die."

Introducing himself the actor addressed the viewers as "idiots" and recalled his role as Chatur in the movie. He rarely makes any of such public appeals but this time it was personal as he said that h has met Sonam and described him as a humble man who is an educator, and has contributed to the nation with his skills.

He said Wangdu's character was based on the real-life Ladakhi engineer, innovator, educator and reformer. Vaidya also revealed that he had personally met Wangchuk and described him as a humble and impressive person.

The actor urged people to read more about Wangchuk's work and achievements.

Omi Vaidya Raises Concern Over Wangchuk's Health

He goes further to express serious concern about Wangchuk's health with an indefinite hunger strike. He said that Wangchuk is fasting for a very long time now and his blood sugar level has dropped significantly. He questioned whether enough attention was being given to the activist's health and ongoing protest.

"This is a pretty important thing," Vaidya said while asking people to take notice of the situation.

In his video message he made a very important point, that people may have different opinions about Wangchuk's demands but his health must not be ignored.
"Whether you agree with him or not, I don't really want this guy to die," Vaidya said.

Why Is Sonam Wangchuk On Hunger Strike?

One must know that Wangchuk is currently participating in a protest at Jantar Mantar led by the latest Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), and it started with their key demand - the resignation of the Education Minister - Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest focused on alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demands accountability from the government.

The protest also demands Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of the NEET aspirants who allegedly committed suicide following the paper leak.
The protest began on June 20, while Wangchuk joined the agitation on June 28. Since then, he has continued his indefinite hunger strike.

The CJP claims that Wangchuk has lost nearly 9 kgs since beginning his fast and his health has continued to fall.

Protesters Plan Parliament March On July 20

Meanwhile the protesters at Jantar Mantar are set to continue and plan to hold a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20- that marks the first day of the Monsoon Session.
Opposition leaders and student groups have also continued to express support for the protest.
