J&K govt formation: BJP-PDP seal the deal, may announce alliance soon

Srinagar, Feb 21: After days of discussions and several meetings, BJP and PDP have finally agreed to each other's terms and a deal has been finalised between the two parties leading to government formation in the Valley.

According to reports, PDP will have the chief minister's post while BJP will hold the Deputy CM's post. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and will discuss the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Both the parties are believed to have firmed up a carefully drafted Common Minimum Programme (CMP) touching all controversial issues like Article 370 and AFSPA.

An official announcement could be made by the end of the day.

We hope a government will be in place soon," senior state BJP leader Nirmal Singh said. PDP had agreed to make slight changes on the position of AFSPA.

Meanwhile, as per the agreement, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will be the chief minister for the full six years.

PDP with 28 MLAs and BJP with 25 MLAs in the 87-member Assembly have been in talks since the assembly election results were declared on Dec 23 last year.
