Delhi Weather Forecast For 27 May: Severe Heatwaves And Light Rain

According to the India Meteorological Department's Regional Centre in Delhi, red alerts have been posted, warning that the union territory may experience severe heatwaves in isolated parts of the region. It's not all bad news, though, as some light rainfall may be coming soon in the days after.

Severe Heatwave Reports For The Next Few Days, With Light Rain Coming Soon After:

Delhi Expects Severe Heatwaves And Rain

From today, 27 May, till the day after, 29 May, it has been forecast that heatwave conditions will be present in most places, while severe heatwave conditions will hit a few as well. The temperature is forecast to go all the way up to 46°C. 30 May might also experience heatwave conditions, but there is no warning for a severe heatwave on that day.

Still, readers need not wait too long to experience the good news that almost everyone in Delhi has been waiting for, a reprieve from the heat. From 31st May onwards, IMD gave the forecast that the region will finally experience rainfall, albeit only very light rainfall. It may amount to only a few minutes to an hour of drizzle, but this, coupled with some partly cloudy skies, are sure to help cool off the hot weather and provide some much-needed shade.

The highest temperature on those days, however, is predicted to be around 43°C to 45°C, so readers are still advised to be cautious when going outside.

The minimum temperature, at least for today, 27 May, has finally gone below 30°C, but for the coming days, it will continue to float around that temperature range.

IMD's Advice For Severe Heatwaves:

IMD expects the next few days' heat to have severe consequences for people who are exposed to the sun for too long, or are performing heavy work. The department is especially concerned for the well-being of those vulnerable to heatstrokes, like children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. They have given the following advice to combat the heat:

1) Avoid heat exposure - keep cool.
2) Avoid dehydration. Drink sufficient water - even if you are not thirsty.
3) Use ORS or homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, etc. to keep yourself hydrated.
