Bakrid 2024 History And Significance

The roots of Eid-ul-Adha can be traced back to 4,000 years ago. Prophet Ibrahim had a dream where Allah asked him to sacrifice something he loved the most. Prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac. However, an angel intervened and forbade him from sacrificing a human life in the name of God.

Bakrid is celebrated to honour Prophet Ibrahim's loyalty to God. It is commonly known as the 'Festival of Sacrifice'. The festival symbolises the willingness to sacrifice anything one loves the most in the name of God. This act of sacrifice is a central theme of Bakrid.

Bakrid 2024 Celebrations

On Bakrid, people gather at mosques to offer prayers. The day begins with a special prayer called Salat al-Eid. After the prayers, families perform the ritual of sacrificing an animal. The meat from the sacrifice is divided into three parts: one for the family, one for friends and relatives, and one for the poor and needy.

People wear traditional attire on Bakrid. Men usually wear Kurta Paijama or Salwar Kameez, while women opt for Sharara or Laacha. Wearing new clothes is considered auspicious and adds to the festive spirit.

Food plays a significant role in Bakrid celebrations. Some popular dishes include Siwai, Dahi Phulke, and Biryani. These dishes are prepared with love and shared with family and friends, enhancing the joy of the festival.
