Kolkata, Feb 9: Former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee slammed BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at a Left rally at the Brigade Parade Ground here on Sunday. The meeting was also attended by CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, West Bengal Left Front Chairman Biman Bose and other Left leaders.

The veteran CPI(M) leader, after accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal of failing to ensure economic development and proper governance, hit out at Modi over his speech given at the same venue last Wednesday. Modi had said that if he became the prime minister, then the people of West Bengal would have benefit from both him and Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of the state. Taking a dig at Modi, Bhattacharjee warned the crowd not to get influenced by such talks. "Having Narendra Modi's laddoo will make you regret," he said.

We don't need Narendra Modi's model of development, said Buddhadeb

He also mocked Modi's model of development which is often discussed in the country's political circles. "Who is this Narendra Modi? We don't want his style of development," Bhattacharjee said, adding that Modi's development essentially meant pro-rich development. He also said that if the BJP and TMC joined hands, it would mean disaster for the state.

Bhattacharjee also said that the Left called the rally to warn the ruling TMC that its style of functioning couldn't go for long.
