Kolkata Bomb Threat: Indian Museum Shut, Security Measures Taken

In response to a bomb threat received via email, the Indian Museum in Kolkata has been temporarily closed for several hours as a security measure. Prompt evacuation of all visitors from the premises was carried out following the threat, reported ANI.

As a precautionary step, the museum has been assessed by the bomb squad to ensure the safety of the area. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and normal operations at the museum are anticipated to resume after obtaining security clearance.

"The presence of several bombs planted inside the Indian Museum, which would explode at any moment, was indicated in the threat mail," informed senior police officer, reported PTI. A comprehensive search of the museum building was conducted with the bomb squad, sniffer dogs, a quick response team (QRT), and a substantial police contingent strategically positioned in and around the central Kolkata building.
Further, a probe to trace the source of the email has been initiated by the cyber section of the police, reported Deccan Herald. Founded in 1814, the Indian Museum is recognized as the earliest and the largest multipurpose museum not only in the Indian sub-continent but also in the Asia-Pacific region, according to information available on its website.
