UNESCO Recognises Bhagavad Gita And Natyashastra In Memory Of The World Register
The addition of the Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni's Natyashastra manuscripts to UNESCO's esteemed Memory of the World Register represents a significant global acknowledgement of India's intellectual and cultural heritage. The move was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said it was a monument to the nation's rich tradition and timeless wisdom and a proud moment for all Indians.
PM Modi posted on social media, saying, "This is a glorious moment for all Indians worldwide! The Gita and Natyashastra's inclusion on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register is a testament to our rich cultural heritage and ageless wisdom. For ages, civilization and consciousness have been fostered by the Gita and Natyashastra. The globe is still inspired by their insights.

With the addition of 74 new documentary heritage collections, UNESCO now has 570 inscribed entries in its Memory of the World Register. Of these, the Bhagavad Gita and Natyashastra are notable for their contributions to Indian civilization. Bharat Muni's Natyashastra is considered a classic work on aesthetics and the performing arts.

The announcement was also greeted by Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who posted pictures of the two texts along with the words, "A momentous moment for Bharat's civilisational history! Bharat Muni's Natyashastra and the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita are now listed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. This international honor honors India's timeless wisdom and creative brilliance.
He further added, "These timeless works are more than literary treasures-they are philosophical and aesthetic foundations that have shaped Bharat's worldview and the way we think, feel, live, and express. As a result, our nation now has 14 entries on this international registry.
