Refute Trump's wiretapping claim, FBI told Justice Department
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has asked the justice department to refute the claim made by US President Donald Trump that his predecessor Barack Obama ordered wiretapping of Trump's phones last year. The New York Times reported that the FBI had asked the justice department to refute the claim.
The request was made by the FBI since such wiretapping would be illegal as a president cannot order wiretapping of a US citizen's phone. CNN reported that the source would however not reveal who was involved in the conversations between the FBI and the department of justice. Both the FBI and DOJ have refused to comment on the issue.
The justice department has so far said nothing about the issue. It was Trump who made the allegations of wiretapping in a series of tweets on Saturday.
