At Least 18 Migrants from Venezuela and Peru Killed in Tragic Bus Crash
Early Friday, a tragic bus crash in southern Mexico claimed the lives of at least 18 migrants from Venezuela and Peru, according to official reports from the country's National Immigration Institute. The victims included two women and three children, while another 29 individuals sustained injuries. As of now, no further information has been provided about their condition.
A Gruesome Scene

The incident took place on a curvy section of highway in Oaxaca, a state located in southern Mexico. Pictures circulated by authorities depicted the bus toppled over onto its side. The cause of this fatal accident is currently under investigation by local officials. According to preliminary findings by the National Immigration Institute, there were approximately 55 passengers aboard the ill-fated vehicle at the time of crash; most hailed from Venezuela.
Migrant Deaths: A Troubling Pattern
This unfortunate incident adds to an alarming pattern of migrant deaths occurring throughout Mexico as increasing numbers venture towards the US border. Migrants and smugglers often resort to precarious modes of transportation such as unregulated buses, freight trucks or trains due to frequent raids conducted by migration agents on regular buses.
Previous Incidents
In fact, just last week another devastating event unfolded when a freight truck carrying Cuban migrants crashed on a highway in Chiapas - a state neighbouring Oaxaca that shares its southern border with Guatemala. This incident resulted in ten fatalities and left seventeen others seriously injured.
Migration Crisis Continues
The ongoing crisis continues unabated as countless people embark upon perilous journeys seeking better opportunities across borders despite knowing full well about these life-threatening risks associated with irregular travel arrangements made out of desperation or lack thereof any safe alternatives.
In conclusion, these recurring incidents underscore an urgent need for comprehensive immigration reform policies that prioritize the safety and dignity of migrants. It is high time that international community, especially countries like Mexico and US, address this crisis with empathy, compassion and effective policy measures. The tragic bus crash in Oaxaca serves as a grim reminder of the human cost associated with migration - a cost that is too high to ignore any longer.
