Will stop 'Buddha' serial if content found offensive: HC
The remark was made by a division bench of Justices S J Vazifdar and B P Colabawala, while hearing a public interest litigation seeking the court to stop telecast of the serial based on Gautam Buddha on Zee TV as it is factually incorrect and hence hurts sentiments of his followers.
"If there is something really wrong in the serial and if it hurts religious sentiments then we will put a stop to it. But if the issue is trivial then we would not get into it. If there are two different philosophies followed in the religion then we will not interfere," Justice Vazifdar said.
The court issued notice to the Union and state governments, the serial's producer B K Modi and Zee channel. It directed the respondents to file their replies within two weeks. The petition filed by Samta Sainik Dal claimed that the serial's portrayal of Lord Buddha was factually incorrect.
