India saw a record ₹993 hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices on International Labour Day, reaching ₹3,071.50 in New Delhi; this third consecutive monthly rise has increased costs by over ₹1,300 in three months, impacting businesses while domestic prices remain unchanged.

The hike comes at a time when global energy prices are rising due to tensions in West Asia, adding pressure on fuel costs.

Record Hike in Commercial LPG Cylinders

The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by ₹993, marking the biggest single-day jump so far. In New Delhi, the price has gone up to ₹3,071.50 from ₹2,078.50 earlier.

This sharp increase is expected to directly affect businesses that depend heavily on LPG for daily operations.

Third Consecutive Monthly Increase

This is the third straight month of LPG price hikes. Earlier revisions saw prices rise by ₹114.50 on March 1 and ₹195.50 on April 1.

With the latest increase, commercial LPG prices have gone up by more than ₹1,300 in just three months. This steady rise has raised concerns about inflation and business costs.

Prices Across Major Cities

The new LPG rates vary slightly across cities:

  • Mumbai - ₹3,046.50
  • Pune - ₹3,107
  • Kolkata - ₹3,355
  • Bengaluru - ₹3,174.50
  • Chennai - ₹3,259.50
  • Patna - ₹3,369
  • Hyderabad - ₹2,343.50
  • Lucknow - ₹3,194

These rates show that the price burden is being felt across the country.

Small Cylinder Also Gets Costlier

Along with commercial cylinders, the 5-kg "Chotu" LPG cylinder has also become more expensive by ₹261. This smaller cylinder is often used by street vendors and low-income households, making the hike more significant for them.

Domestic LPG Prices Remain Unchanged

While commercial users face a sharp increase, domestic LPG prices have not changed. The 14.2-kg household cylinder continues to cost ₹913 in Delhi.

The last revision for domestic LPG was on March 7, when prices were increased by ₹60. Since then, there has been no further hike for household consumers.

Political Reaction to Price Hike

The price rise has triggered political reactions. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the increase, calling it a burden on small businesses and everyday consumers.

In a post on social media, he said the sharp rise in LPG prices would affect tea stalls, dhabas, bakeries, and restaurants, and could eventually lead to higher food prices for the public.

Why LPG Prices Are Rising

Experts say LPG prices are influenced by global energy markets, supply conditions, and geopolitical tensions. The ongoing conflict in West Asia has pushed up fuel costs, which is now reflected in domestic prices.

The sharp increase in commercial LPG prices on Labour Day has added to economic concerns, especially for small businesses. While households have been spared for now, the ripple effect of rising costs may soon be felt in everyday expenses.

As global conditions remain uncertain, further price changes cannot be ruled out in the coming months.
