Uttarakhand CM Orders Inspection of Residential Educational Institutions
U
In a significant move, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a comprehensive inspection of all residential educational institutions in the state. This decision comes in the wake of an incident where a man running an institute was arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting a visually challenged girl. The chief minister's order underscores his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of students studying in these institutions.

The Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi communicated this directive to all district magistrates and senior superintendents of police. They have been instructed to take necessary action on the chief minister's instructions and submit a report within one month. Raturi emphasized that the department concerned should form joint teams with police to carry out inspections at residential educational institutions.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Raturi further clarified that if any case of sexual exploitation or abuse is detected during these inspections, strict legal action will be taken immediately without any delay. This zero-tolerance policy towards child abuse reflects the government’s firm stance on safeguarding children’s rights and welfare.
Arrest Sheds Light on Horrific Incident
The trigger for this statewide inspection was the arrest of sixty-year-old Shyam Dhanak who ran an institute under National Association for Blind (NAB) for visually challenged individuals. He was apprehended from his residence in Haldwani district last Friday evening following allegations of sexual exploitation against a visually challenged girl.
Complaints Lead to Action
A few minor girls from Dhanak's institute had courageously lodged a complaint through a letter to the police back in July about their ordeal. Acting upon these complaints, investigations were launched which eventually led to Dhanak’s arrest after confirming the veracity of the allegations.
Taking serious note of this incident, Chief Minister Dhami issued directions for a thorough inspection of all residential educational institutions in the state. This move has been widely appreciated by parents and guardians who see it as a step towards ensuring safer educational environments for their children.
In conclusion, while this order is a significant measure to prevent such incidents in future, it also underscores the need for stricter regulations and vigilance within educational institutions. It serves as a reminder that child safety cannot be compromised under any circumstance and those violating it will face severe consequences. The government's proactive approach in dealing with such heinous acts sends out a strong message that every child’s right to safe education will be protected at all costs.
