Two Tragedies Cost Over 30 Lives In Fire Accidents: A Look At Recent Mishaps In India
Over the weekend, at least 34 people including 6 infants and nine children were killed in two separate fire incidents in Rajkot and Delhi.
On Saturday night, a fire at a children's hospital in East Delhi's Vivek Vihar caused the deaths of seven newborns. The hospital's owner, who had been missing since the fire, was arrested on Sunday.

On the same day, a fire at a gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat, resulted in 28 deaths, including 9 children. Police arrested the gaming zone's manager, Nitin Jain, and one of its partners, Yuvraj Singh Solanki, on Sunday. There has been a notable increase in the occurrences of fires erupting in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, resulting in numerous fatalities across the country in recent times.
However, these incidents are not isolated occurrences, as similar accidents are being reported across the nation on a regular basis. Let's take a look at some major tragidies in recent days.
Fire in Maharashtra Chemical Factory
Earlier, on May 23, a fire erupted following a boiler explosion at a chemical factory in Thane, Maharashtra. This tragedy resulted in 10 deaths and injured over 60 people.
Fire at Delhi Home
In another incident, on April 2, two sisters, aged 14 and 12, died when a fire broke out at their home in Sadar Bazar, Delhi. The fire trapped them in the bathroom.
Residential Fire in Shahdara
A fire in a residential building in Shastri Nagar, Shahdara, on March 14, led to the deaths of two children and a married couple. They succumbed to suffocation.
Paint Factory Fire in Alipur
On February 15, a fire at a paint factory in outer Delhi's Alipur area caused 11 deaths. The charred bodies were recovered from the factory in Dayalpur market.
Fire in Maharashtra Manufacturing Company
In December last year, a fire in a hand glove manufacturing company in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, led to six deaths. The incident occurred on December 31, 2023, in the Waluj MIDC area.
Fire in Bengaluru
On October 19, 2023, a fire broke out at a multi-storied building in Koramangala, Bengaluru. The fire began around noon in the 'Mud Pipe Cafe' where several LPG cylinders were stored.
